History in the Making
New General Church Archives Committee
The Church of God and Saints of Christ (CGSC), established in 1896, is founded on the pillar of the Stone of Truth by Prophet William S. Crowdy. It is said that history is his-story; we have a glorious story to tell. On Abib (April) 20, 2011 C.E.O. Senior Bishop Robert D. Grant, Sr. incorporated an official archive committee to help turn the pages in the church’s renowned past and prophetic future. Deacon Oliver Daley was selected to service as the Primary Archivist for the general Archive Committee. The following members have been appointed as official archivists: Rabbi Evangelist Herbert Lewis (Dayton, OH), Elder Abel Guy (Baltimore, MD), GSSS St. Marilyn Dawson (Pittsburg, PA), and St. Alvin Hill (Stratford, CT).
The Archive Committee will launch an online research database library website scheduled for 4/1/2012 (New Years). This website will be separate from www.cogasoc.net and will provide members reasonable access to the church’s general archives. A fee will be required to access the online research database, and the committee will release the fee amount before the website launches in Abib (April).
Historical items may be submitted to the general church via email, mail, fax, or at the national gatherings. The Archive Committee preferred submittal method is via email. Please send copies of all historic artifacts via Email: archive@cogasoc.net; Mail: PO Box 2672, Hagerstown, MD 21741; or Fax: (301) 576-5061.
Deacon Daley said, “…materials are being submitted steadily and the saints will be surprised to know how much materials we have internally.” Deacon Oliver Daley continued to state, “The committee plans to visit 4-5 key tabernacles before the launch of their website.”
The Deacon closed out with, “The Archive Committee was not organized to replace the responsibility of a pastor, preacher, Sabbath school teacher, or counselor. We were incorporated to collect, organize, store, preserve, and protect the Church of God and Saints of Christ history. All this archiving effort would be in vain if nobody (or just a special few) was able to access it; therefore, we are also here to provide reasonable and responsible access to our collection to benefit the church. Our efforts may help to supplement a pastor, preacher, Sabbath school teacher, or counselor but we are simply archivists.”
